Ayant appris le décès du Président Robert Mugabé, ancien Président de la République du Zimbabwé, le Président Laurent Gbagbo depuis Bruxelles, lui a rendu un vibrant hommage et présenté ses sincères condoléances à sa famille, au Zimbabwé, et à toute l’Afrique, qui vient de perdre un grand homme d’Etat.

C’est avec une grande tristesse que j’ai appris le décès, le 6 septembre 19, de monsieur Robert Mugabe, ancien Président de la République du Zimbabwe. Je m’incline avec respect devant sa dépouille et je salue la mémoire de l’homme d’Etat.
Je présente mes sincères condoléances à sa famille, au peuple et au gouvernement du Zimbabwe. Le Zimbabwe et l’Afrique perdent un grand patriote africain et un vaillant combattant pour la liberté. Sa lutte pour la libération de ses compatriotes du colonialisme britannique l’a conduit dans le maquis pendant plusieurs années et lui a valu dix années de prison.
A l’indépendance de son pays, en 1980, il a offert l’hospitalité à tous les mouvements politiques qui étaient en lutte contre les derniers bastions du colonialisme et de l’apartheid en Afrique australe. Il a ainsi joué un rôle déterminant, entre autres, dans l’indépendance de la Namibie et dans le combat contre l’apartheid en Afrique du Sud.
Malgré l’ostracisme dont lui, son gouvernement et son peuple ont été victimes pendant plusieurs décennies de la part d’une partie du monde, le Président Mugabe est resté fidèle à ses convictions et a toujours dénoncé, partout où il en avait l’occasion, les nombreuses injustices qui continuent d’être faites au continent africain et aux peuples opprimés.
Il mérite pour cela la considération de toute l’Afrique. C’est donc à juste titre, et je m’en félicite, que le gouvernement du Zimbabwe l’élève au rang de héros national.
Que Dieu l’accueille dans son royaume et que son âme repose en paix.
