Etats-Unis : Trump signe un arrêté pour sanctionner les destructeurs de statues
Alors que des statues continuent d’être vandalisées un peu partout aux Etats-Unis, le président américain Donald Trump prend une décision. Il a signé un arrêté qui prévoit de lourdes peines contre les destructeurs de statues.
Le locataire de la Maison Blanche a procédé à la signature d’un arrêté présidentiel qui protège les statues, monuments, et qui réprime « la violence criminelle récente ». C’est le vendredi 26 juin 2020 qu’il avait annoncé l’information sur le réseau social de l’oiseau bleu. « De longues peines de prison pour les actes hors-la-loi contre notre grand pays ! » avait-il aussi laissé lire dans son message.
L’administration Trump a laissé entendre que cette décision prise permettrait à l’exécutif américain « de poursuivre toute personne ou organisation » qui détruirait ou abîmerait « les biens religieux ». A noter que cette annonce intervient à un moment où les USA sont agités par des manifestations antiracismes, depuis un certain nombre de semaines.
Il faut dire qu’à Washington, une statue d’un général sudiste a été vandalisée. Les manifestants ont également tenté en vain cette semaine, de vandaliser une autre qui se trouve devant la Maison Blanche. En effet, il s’agissait de la statue du défenseur de l’esclavage et ancien président des Etats-Unis, Andrew Jackson.
De plus, l’exécutif américain coupera les aides publiques de « certains États ou gouvernements locaux » qui n’arriveraient pas « à protéger les monuments publics, les mémoriaux ou les statues de la destruction et du vandalisme ».
Egalement, l’administration Trump a ajouté que « le président Trump n’autorisera jamais que la violence contrôle nos rues, réécrive notre histoire et mette à mal le mode de vie américain ».
Le président américain a fait savoir qu’il a annulé vendredi, à la dernière minute, son déplacement pour le New-Jersey, où il devait passer son week-end. Selon Trump, ce déplacement est annulé juste pour être sûr que l’ordre « règne » à Washington. Il faut dire que ce déplacement a suscité un certain nombre d’interrogations pour le simple fait que la pandémie continue de sévir dans le pays.
