Le Tchad a envoyé des soldats au Niger et au Nigeria dans le cadre de l’opération contre le groupe jihadiste Boko Haram, qui a tué une centaine de militaires tchadiens le 23 mars, a annoncé mardi le ministre de la défense nationale.
« Nous avons l’accord des deux autres pays, le Niger et le Nigeria, et nous avons présentement des hommes dans tous ces pays », a annoncé le 31 mars, à la télévision nationale, le ministre de la défense nationale, le général Mahamat Abbali Salah. Le Tchad, le Niger et le Nigeria, tout comme le Cameroun, sont limitrophes du lac Tchad, une immense étendue d’eau et de marécages parsemée d’une multitude d’îles, devenues des repères pour Boko Haram.
Une attaque des jihadistes de Boko Haram sur une base militaire située sur la presqu’île de Bohoma avait tué 98 militaires tchadiens le 23 mars. « Notre objectif est de nettoyer toute la zone insulaire », a affirmé le ministre, qui évoque un déploiement de « cinq secteurs », sans préciser le nombre d’hommes mobilisés.
Le président Idriss Déby Itno s’est rendu sur place après l’attaque et s’est installé dans la région, affirmant organiser la contre-attaque, baptisée « colère de Bohoma », sur le terrain.
Les pays de la région sont déjà organisés pour lutter contre le groupe jihadiste depuis 2015 au sein de la Force multinationale mixte (FMM), une coalition régionale engagée autour du lac Tchad avec l’aide de comités de vigilance composés d’habitants.
L’insurrection de Boko Haram a fait 36 000 morts et près de 2 millions de déplacés dans le Nord-Est du Nigeria depuis son début en 2009, selon l’ONU. Le groupe jihadiste a étendu son action au Niger, au Tchad et au Cameroun voisins.
