LUTTE CONTRE LE CORONAVIRUS : LES CHEFS D’ETAT ET DE GOUVERNEMENT DE LA CEDEAO RECOMMANDENT DES MESURES FORTES
Abidjan, le 23 avril 2020 – Réunis le jeudi 23 avril 2020 par visioconférence en session extraordinaire de la Conférence des Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement de la CEDEAO sur la crise sanitaire liée à la pandémie de coronavirus, les dirigeants ouest-africains ont recommandé des actions fortes, afin de renforcer le dispositif de lutte contre le COVID-19 dans la sous-région.
Il s’agit de la nomination d’un Chef d’Etat comme champion pour superviser la riposte et le processus d’éradication de cette maladie au sein de l’espace communautaire et l’annulation de la dette des pays africains.
Les Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement de la CEDEAO ont également recommandé la création d’un comité ministériel comprenant les ministres de la Santé et du Transport, en vue de coordonner les efforts sous la supervision du champion, la création d’un fonds de solidarité de la CEDEAO et l’encouragement des Etats membres à accroître, de manière substantielle, les tests de dépistage.
Au cours de cette session à laquelle le Président ivoirien, Alassane Ouattara, a pris part, les Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement ont lancé un appel à la mutualisation des efforts pour venir à bout de cette pandémie.
Au niveau des institutions de la CEDEAO, les Chefs d’Etat et de gouvernement se sont félicités des actions engagées, notamment à travers l’Organisation ouest-africaine de la santé, l’organisation d’une réunion des ministres de la santé des Etats membres, le 14 février 2020, à Bamako, afin de convenir d’une stratégie régionale ainsi que la finalisation du plan de riposte régional au COVID-19 évalué à 51 millions de dollars US, soit plus de 25,5 milliards de FCFA.
