La chaine W9 reviendra sur le sauvetage héroïque de Mamadou Gassama, ce sans-papier d’origine malienne, qui après avoir escaladé à mains nues un immeuble parisien pour sauver un enfant de 4 ans, avait pu incorporer les pompiers de Paris. Un an et demi plus tard, nous l’avons retrouvé. Voilà à quoi ressemble sa nouvelle vie.
Un an et demi après son spectaculaire geste, Mamadou Gassama reste une personnalité très demandée, « et ce jusque dans le monde entier où on le sollicite pour divers événements », nous explique Djénéba Keita, maire adjointe de Montreuil, et qui a pris le jeune homme de 23 ans sous son aile.

Entre deux invitations en Afrique ou aux Etats-Unis, Mamadou Gassama tente pourtant de retrouver ses esprits et de reprendre le cours normal de sa vie, du côté de Montreuil, en banlieue parisienne, où il suit des cours de Français. Accueilli en héros national au Mali, il avait pu revoir son père pour la première fois depuis son départ pour l’Europe, au milieu des années 2010.
Après son acte héroïque, en 2018, il avait bénéficié de la nationalité française et avait pu incorporer la brigade des Sapeur-pompiers de Paris. Il n’en fait cependant plus partie, depuis plusieurs mois. « Il a fait partie de nos effectifs pendant un an, dans le cadre d’un service civique. Après une formation de secouriste, et dans le cadre de missions hebdomadaires, il a participé à des interventions, mais pas au feu », nous indique le service communication de la brigade.
Il travaille à la sortie d’un livre
Djénéba Keita explique que Mamadou nourrit toujours l’ambition d’intégrer les pompiers de Paris, mais qu’il lui faut avant soigner une maladie du sang dont il est atteint et pour laquelle il est en cours de traitement. Mamadou Gassama travaille également à la sortie d’un livre sur sa vie.
Autre anecdote étonnante : il devenu ami avec Lassana Bathily, cet employé de l’Hyper Casher, qui avait sauvé plusieurs clients lors de la prise d’otage de 2015. Djeneba Keita avait organisé une rencontre entre les deux hommes pour qu’ils partagent leur expérience. Ils sont devenus comme des frères, paraît-il.
